Welcome to the
Transkei’s Best Kept Secret
The Haven Hotel is a family and adventure destination located within the Cwebe/Dwesa Nature Reserves on the Transkei Wild Coast of South Africa. Blessed with sea, sun and endless things to see and do, it offers a way of life that lets you forget the rest of the world and relax in the most secluded and unspoiled surroundings.
Established over 80 years ago, the Haven comprises of 25 spacious en-suite cottages scattered within a tranquil, garden-like environment. Located at the mouth of the Mbashe River, the Haven has long been renowned as one of the prime fishing destinations in South Africa.
But that is only one of the many reasons to visit this unique Transkei Wild Coast resort. Some of the other activities you can enjoy include hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, swimming, birding, exploring, canoeing, fishing (catch & release), tennis, golf, whale and dolphin-watching, snorkeling, 4x4ing.
The favourite pastime of guests, however, seems to be ………simply relaxing.
“Come, leave the world behind…”
The hotel accommodates 80 guests. There are 25 cottages with a “fishermen’s cottage” feel to them. Some cottages are sea facing while others are set further back in a garden-like setting.
In front of the hotel there is a real Transkei 9 hole mash golf course. The beach is a 200m walk from the hotel.
Most of our 2 roomed cottages have a common veranda/stoep. Some have an interleading door, which is suitable for families with young children. There are also 8 thatched Xhosa styled rondavels keeping you cool in summer and warmer in the winter.
Please note that we don’t offer beach towels. Rooms are serviced daily and we offer fresh linen and towels.
Water is obtained from the Amatola Municipality. While it has been treated it is not recommended for drinking. Ample drinking rain water is provided. Bottled water can also be purchased at the bar. Coffee and tea is available in the rooms. We do not offer TV’s or air conditioners in the rooms. There is a TV in the lounge of the main Hotel building.
