Transkei’s Best Kept Secret
The Haven Hotel is a family and adventure destination located within the Cwebe/Dwesa Nature Reserves on the Transkei Wild Coast of South Africa. Blessed with sea, sun and endless things to see and do, it offers a way of life that lets you forget the rest of the world and relax in the most secluded and unspoiled surroundings.
Established over 80 years ago, the Haven comprises of 25 spacious en-suite cottages scattered within a tranquil, garden-like environment. Located at the mouth of the Mbashe River, the Haven has long been renowned as one of the prime fishing destinations in South Africa.
But that is only one of the many reasons to visit this unique Transkei Wild Coast resort. Some of the other activities you can enjoy include hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, swimming, birding, exploring, canoeing, fishing (catch & release), tennis, golf, whale and dolphin-watching, snorkeling, 4x4ing.
The favourite pastime of guests, however, seems to be ………simply relaxing.

HOTEL LAYOUT

The hotel accommodates 80 guests. There are 25 cottages with a “fishermen’s cottage” feel to them. Some cottages are sea facing while others are set further back in a garden-like setting.
In front of the hotel there is a real Transkei 9 hole mash golf course. The beach is a 200m walk from the hotel.
Most of our 2 roomed cottages have a common veranda/stoep. Some have an interleading door, which is suitable for families with young children. There are also 8 thatched Xhosa styled rondavels keeping you cool in summer and warmer in the winter.
Please note that we don’t offer beach towels. Rooms are serviced daily and we offer fresh linen and towels.
Water is obtained from the Amatola Municipality. While it has been treated it is not recommended for drinking. Ample drinking rain water is provided. Bottled water can also be purchased at the bar. Coffee and tea is available in the rooms. We do not offer TV’s or air conditioners in the rooms. There is a TV in the lounge of the main Hotel building.

A full bar service is available and the cosy bar boasts a full size billiards table and dart board.
The hotel has a carefully selected wine list with a variety of tastes and prices to suit a wide range of palates. We also have a selection of single malt whiskeys to be savoured.
There are no self catering facilities although the chef is always willing to cook your fresh catch. For those who wish to get away or go hiking, lunch packs can be pre-ordered from the kitchen. Cooler boxes are also available for sundowners on the river or on our beautiful Wild Coast beach.
